Sun Exercises - The Heart of the Zero Impact Workout

Twice each day, the sun reaches an angle of 30° from the horizon. At those times, the sun still has some tanning power but will do minimum damage to one's skin. So, at those times, do the Sun Exercises. Here is a summary:

During this entire sequence, chant a two octave arpeggio with each breath.

Remove your clothing except for something to cover your neck and something to cover the crease below your chest - those two areas are especially sensitive to sun damage.

Lie on your back, perpendicular to the sun - so it shines on the side of your body. Do 5 to 8 minutes of gentle exercises with your upper body.

Pivot around 180°, still on your back so that the other side of your body faces the sun. Do 5 to 8 minutes of exercises with the lower half of your body.

Turn over on to your stomach. Cover the back of your neck and the narrow crease down the middle of your back. The sun can easily damage both of those areas. Do gentle exercises facing down, always alternating your head from side to side.

Pivot around, still on your stomach, so the other side of your body faces the sun and repeat the face-down exercises.

Turn over on to your back and orient your feet toward the sun. Now alternate between stomach crunches and arching up with only your hands and feet on the ground.

Pivot around one last time, still on your back so that the sun shines on the top of your shoulders and put on your socks, then pants and finally your top.
